Yi Chung

Professor Dr. Chung Yi is a renowned art critic in Malaysia. Currently, she serves as the Director of Southeast Asia Arts and Cultures of Yunnan University of Finance and Economics. She is also a research scholar of the School of Philosophy and the School of Arts at Peking University, Beijing, China. She had her Bachelor of Pathology and Master from National Taiwan University in 1988. In 2000, she went to Beijing, China to pursue her PhD. in Art History.

 

In her daily life, she is a lecturer, researcher, writer and editor with emphasizing in Southeast Asian Arts and Culture. She has written several books and over 30 thesis related to this field of study have been published.  One of her book “The Art Development of Malaysian Chinese from 1900 -1965” was recognized as the milestone achievement in this area. The main scope of this book is to determine the development of Chinese ink painting in Southeast Asia region. She has also developed the grading system of Unified Examination of Ink Painting for the countries that include Malaysia, UK , Holland , Australia & New Zealand since 1990.  

 

Besides her academic achievement, she is also making woodcut printing and has participated in international exhibitions for the past few years.
